During November 2014, Bosch conference systems and security cameras were the primary communication tools used for the 2014 G20 Leaders Summit. Held in Brisbane on the 15 and 16 of November, the annual G20 meeting was the ninth time leaders from the world’s most influential economies gathered to discuss economic cooperation and global decision making. The hosting venues were the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Queensland Parliament House and the Queensland Art Gallery.
Congress Rental were selected by the G20 Taskforce to supply technical equipment in 15 seperate rooms across the three different locations. Bosch equipment was chosen to cover the need for conference microphones, high powered radiators, transmitters and receivers, as well as cameras in these spaces.
The summit commenced on the morning of 15 November with The Retreat held at Queensland Parliment House. Here, 20 DCN-WD-D Wireless Dual Discussion Units and four VCD-811-ICT HD Conference Domes were used. Wireless communication means extra security considerations, so the Discussion Units feature 128-bits AES encryption to ensure information remains confidential. The HD Conference Domes are also designed specifically for conference applications. The cameras are extremely compact, with an industry standard HD-DSI output for suburb HD quality video with 1080p and 720p resolutions.
On the evening of the 15 November, leaders gathered for a formal dinner at the Queensland Art Gallery. To facilitate conversation, 34 DCN-WDD-D Wireless Dual Discussion Units and LBB4540/32 Digital Infra-red 32 Channel Receivers were used. The combination of these wireless products provided a clean look and feel to the venue.
Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre hosted the majority of meetings which spanned across the two days. For the Leaders Plenary, 34 DCN-DISCS-D Wired Discussion Units were used. Interpretation support staff used LBB4540/32 Digital Infra-red 32 Channel Receivers, which enabled them to simultaneously interpret the speaker’s language. The Discussion Units then provided leaders with the interpretation support, made possible through the built-in channel selector.
Five VCD-811-ICT HD Conference Domes were mounted in the roof trussing system to provide a close up view of all leaders for the Interpreters and senior delegates, as well as a wide shot screening the entire conference room. The queuing system feature in the DCN-DISCS-D Wired Discussion Units allowed the Prime Minister to see a list of leaders wishing to speak and select the leader in the order of his preference.
The Finance Ministers meeting was held in a separate room from the Leaders Plenary at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. This meeting required 34 DCN-DISCS-D Wired Discussion Units and three VCD-811-ICT HD Conference Dome Cameras. The Dome Cameras integrate seamlessly with the DCN Discussion Units, allowing the cameras to automatically capture the person speaking at the ‘live’ microphone and project them onto surrounding screens.
In addition, a Leaders Lunch meeting was also held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, whereby 34 DCN-WDD-D Wireless Dual Discussion Units were set up with 4 VCD-811-ICT HD Conference Dome Cameras located in the ceiling. This setup provided the room with a clean appearance with no cable visible to delegates.
Across all three locations and meetings, Bosch Integrus systems were employed, which included LBB 4512/00 Integrus High Power Radiators, LBB4540 Integrus Infra-red 32 Channel Receivers and INT-TX32 32 Integrus Channel Transmitters. The Bosch Integrus Radiator system was essential in providing 16 channels for the DCN-WD-D Wireless Discussion Units and ensuring the conference venue is covered with powerful, uniform IR-radiation.
The Infra-red Receivers are used for language distribution within the meetings and ensure all delegates receive signals without disturbance. The receivers incorporate specially-designed IC for maximum performance and long battery life, and clip to pockets for easy wearing.
Central to the Integrus system is the Bosch INT-TX32 32 Integrus Channel Transmitters. The Transmitters accept analogue or digital input, modulates these signals onto carrier waves and transmits these carrier waves to the Integrus High Power Radiators located in the room, providing seamless communication between all involved.
“The event went exceptionally well” stated Jeremy Ducklin, from Congress Rental in Australia. “We know the Bosch equipment very well, so we are able to propose solutions to clients that fully meet their needs and at the same time we know we can deliver successfully.
“The greatest challenge for this event was that we only got confirmation of being the successful tenderer 6 weeks prior to the event. We are part of the Congress Rental Network, a network of companies that all carry the Bosch range of congress and conference equipment, which meant that we could at very short notice get supply of the additional equipment required for this event” furthered Mr. Ducklin. “In terms of reliability, Bosch is the best available, that’s why we are such big fans. Whilst Bosch keeps its reliability and innovation in new products at the current high level, we remain a strong partner, 90% of our stock is Bosch. For the G20, of course nothing went wrong.”
